Introducing The War Archive — A New Monthly World War Two Series from Classic Pictures

For more than three decades, Classic Pictures has travelled the world documenting the men and women who witnessed the defining conflict of the twentieth century, while also building one of the richest privately held libraries of World War Two archive footage, propaganda films, original newsreels and historical documentary material ever assembled.

Now, that extraordinary collection is being brought together in a powerful new monthly anthology series: The War Archive.

Designed as a curated journey through the filmed history of World War Two, each 44–52 minute episode draws on a wide range of archive sources to present viewers with a varied and compelling collection of wartime stories. From major battles and strategic combat operations to eyewitness recollections, propaganda films, military technology and hidden histories, The War Archive opens a new window onto the people, events and images that shaped the war.

Combining authentic veteran testimony with original wartime film and decades of Classic Pictures historical productions, the series offers a rich, immersive viewing experience unlike a conventional single-subject documentary. Each month, a new archive is opened — revealing another selection of remarkable stories from across every front of the conflict.

Episode One Premieres: Fronts of War

The debut episode, Fronts of War, sets the tone for the series with six striking stories drawn from very different corners of World War Two.

Viewers are taken into the deadly convoy routes of the Battle of the Atlantic, where Allied sailors fought a relentless struggle against German U-boats, before moving to the home front with the deeply personal memories of the Children of the Blitz, whose wartime childhoods were shaped by air raids, destruction and nightly fear.

The episode also explores the chilling influence of the Nazi Propaganda Machine, revealing how film and media were used to shape perception and sustain the Third Reich, while on the battlefield the formidable Tiger Tank demonstrates the brutal mechanical power that came to symbolise German armoured warfare.

Elsewhere, Fronts of War enters the secretive shadow world of Double Agents, where deception and misinformation became vital weapons, and concludes with the extraordinary story of the War Cameramen Under Fire — the brave film crews who risked everything to capture combat on camera, preserving the very images through which the war is remembered today.

Rich in archive footage, eyewitness testimony and historical insight, Episode One offers a dramatic and wide-ranging opening chapter for this major new series.
